People working in workshops are also exposed to engine oil. The impact upon spilling on the clothes is the same – staining. Here comes the big question, “how to remove oil stains from clothes?”

Not only cooking but eating can get messy at times too. Even if a small bite from your hand or mouth spills on your garment, it can leave a mark on it.

People working in workshops can keep piles of clothes for their working time in the workshop. On the other hand, good clothes can be maintained for outings and regular clothes should be worn for workshops. In this way, at least you can save your favourite clothes. Oil marks are stubborn and are difficult to handle when stuck in clothes.

But you need not worry or increase your blood pressure. Your kitchen is a storehouse of powerhouse ingredients that can help to get rid of foul stains from the clothing. Here, we are talking about grease stains and mind you, oil stains are extremely stubborn to remove. With the help of home remedies, your favourite garment will be back in action again.

Removing grease oil is challenging and repeated action may be required to permanently get rid of the stain. So, don’t lose heart if your step or action is not enough to produce the desirable results. Repeated action can help to get rid of the stain from the clothes.

An important tip: The first and foremost action that should be taken when the oil stains strike your garment is to take immediate action because time will give enough leverage to the oil to set in the garment.

Let us get in the mode of getting rid of the oil stains through the following steps:

  • Use dish detergent to remove oil stains

Lay the cloth that has the stain flat and then apply the dish detergent on it. Rub the detergent on the garment and you may use a brush with soft bristles for the procedure. Allow the detergent to sit on the garment and the stain. Then rinse the cloth and allow it to dry. It is a good way to remove the stain from the garment.

  • Baking Soda

Banking soda is one of the most versatile ingredients on the kitchen shelf with multiple uses. It acts as a complete saviour when it comes to the removal of tough stains. For removing the oil stains also, baking soda is an ideal ingredient. Sprinkle baking soda directly on the stain of the garment and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. You will notice that as the baking soda sucks the oil stain, it will change its colour. It is the first identification that will help you understand that baking soda is at its job. After 10 minutes, scrape off the baking soda and rinse the garment with hot water. You can repeat the steps until the soda stops changing its colour. Then allow the garment to dry and check the stain.

  • Aloe vera gel

Yes, you heard it right. Although the gel is more popular for treating sunburnt skin, it is also useful for treating oil stains on garments. Soak the affected area in hot water and then take it out from the water. Now pour the gel into the garment in a circular motion and again dip it in hot water. Allow it to dry and check if the stain has gone or not.

  • Baby powder

This is one of the easiest methods that I can swear on. It works for me. Sprinkle a baby powder on the affected area. Allow it to sit on the garment for 10 minutes. Then take a toothbrush and brush off the powder. The oil stain will dust away with the powder. Now wash the garment in cold water and allow it to dry. Once the garment is dried, you can check it to see whether the stain is still visible or gone.

  • Use Cornstarch

Cornstarch is another effective kitchen ingredient that can play a pivotal role in removing grease stains from the garment. It is a fine powder with mighty results for treating grease marks on the clothing. Sprinkle a little cornstarch on the garment and allow it to sit for 15 minutes. Use a damp sponge or an old toothbrush to rip off the powder from the garment allowing oil stain to scrape off with the powder. Wash the cloth in cold water and dry it as per the instructions mentioned on the clothes label.

  •  Use nail polish remover

Now, this ingredient has a chemical that works great on oil stains. Simply pour a few drops of the nail polish remover on a clean rag and rub it on the stained garment. If you have multiple stains, then allow it to work on all portions of the stain. Then wash the garment in the detergent so that the smell of nail polish remover is eliminated. Rinse the garment with cold water and dry it according to the instructions mentioned on the label.

You will be surprised to know that the bottle or can of Coca Cola in your fridge is also an effective ingredient for removing the oil stains from the clothes and it works.
