What is the GRE?

The Graduate Record Examination or GRE is a standardised section-adaptive test conducted by ETS.   1. Analytical Writing Assessment

The GRE AWA section is a 60-minute task divided into two parts of 30 minutes each. This section has two tasks — analyse-an-argument and analyse an issue. The AWA section of the GRE is scored on a scale of 0-6 with a half-point increment.

  1. Quantitative Reasoning

The quantitative reasoning section of the GRE is divided into two parts of 20 questions each and has a total duration of 35 minutes for each section. Hence, the GRE quant section comprises 40 questions in total and is timed at 70 minutes. The GRE tests your knowledge of mathematical concepts and problem solving skills.

  1. Verbal Reasoning

The verbal reasoning section of the GRE is also divided into two parts with 20 questions each and each part of the verbal section is timed at 30 minutes. In the verbal reasoning section, your proficiency in the English language is tested.

What is GMAT?

The GMAT is a standardised computer-adaptive test conducted by GMAC globally. The Graduate Management Admission Test is a 3-hour 7 minutes test  (excluding the two 8-minute optional breaks) and is divided into four sections. Scored on a scale of 200-800, the GMAT tests your critical thinking, analytical writing, logical reasoning and problem-solving skills. These are essential skills required to succeed in a Master’s course such as an MBA. Hence, the GMAT is the most prominent test score asked by business schools and universities for admissions to their MBA and other management postgraduate programmes.

  1. Analytical Writing Assessment

The GMAT analytical writing assessment is a 30-minute-long task that requires you to critically analyse an argument presented to you. Your essay is scored on a scale of 0-6 with a half-point increment.

  1. Integrated Reasoning

The IR section of the GMAT requires you to analyse data presented to you in different formats. There are four types of questions — table analysis, two-part analysis, multi-source reasoning or graphics interpretation. You have to answer a total of 12 MCQs within 30 minutes. Furthermore, the IR section is scored on a scale of 1-8 with a single-point increment.

  1. Quantitative Reasoning

The quant section of the GMAT tests your ability to solve problems. Questions are asked from algebra, geometry, arithmetic, etc. You have to answer a total of 31 questions within 60 minutes. Besides, the GMAT quant section is scored on a scale of 6-51 with a single-point increment system.

  1. Verbal Reasoning

The verbal reasoning section of the GMAT comprises 36 questions. The question types include sentence correction, reading comprehension and critical reasoning. Timed at 60 minutes, the verbal reasoning section of the GMAT tests how proficient you are in the English language. In addition, this section is scored on a scale of 6-51 with a single-point increment system.
